Royals tend to stick to more refined, classic staples that withstand time and trends, but Kate Middleton's mini-croc effect bag is proof that even a duchess can't resist getting her hands on the latest accessory craze. Not only are crocodile-print pieces reigning supreme in the fashion world this season, but now, they're officially royal-approved. There's no better time than now to snag a croc-effect bag for yourself — and Middleton proves just how easy they are to style.

On Nov. 28, Middleton and Prince William made a stop in Leicester City in the United Kingdom. For the outing, the Duchess wore an outfit that was right in line with her signature style — one that's elegant, refined, and timeless. Her perfect cold-weather look consisted of a gray Catherine Walker coat dress that features large button-detailing, a peter pan collar, and a pleated skirt. She rounded out her ensemble with simple black tights and her go-to suede pumps.

While Middleton's coat dress was the true focal point of her outfit, there was one small detail that simply couldn't be missed: a shiny, croc-effect bag. It was an unexpectedly edgy, though nonetheless welcomed, addition to the Duchess' refined look, who usually steps out with a polished clutch or tote in a traditional hue.

As it turns out, though, the Wed. outing wasn't the first time Middleton carried the bag. On Oct. 9, while attending the the inaugural Global Ministerial Mental Health Summit in London, she coordinated a lavender Emilia Wickstead dress with the same croc-effect accessory, but rather than opting for stark black, she chose the soft lilac version.

Middleton's boxy bag, the Midi Mayfair by Aspinal of London, is hand-crafted from the finest, black croc-print Italian calf leather. It features a top handle as well as a detachable strap, so you can carry it in hand or wear it as a crossbody. The best part, though? It's available in five different colors, including the Duchess' black and lilac hues, a deep amethyst, a vibrant topaz, and a classic ivory. And at $725, it's actually one of the more affordable croc-effect bags on the market.

It's safe to say that Middleton has definitely started to venture outside of her usual wheelhouse in the last few weeks. She donned brighter, bolder colors and more statement-making accessories, with the croc-effect bag being the latest example.

Middleton is proof that a croc-effect bag is the perfect, subtle way to lean into the animal-inspired trend. It's slightly more understated than a crocodile-print coat or a pair of shoes, but it still adds that luxe element into a look.
