Kate Middleton’s Blue Coat Dress Is Meghan Markle-Approved

Share

Following her and Prince Harry's official tour of the Southern Hemisphere, one thing became clear about Meghan Markle's style: she's obsessed with royal blue. And although the Duchess has kept the shade in constant rotation since becoming a royal in May, her sister-in-law tries her hand at the color every now and then, too. On Wed., Kate Middleton's blue coat dress proved she knows a thing or two about Meghan's go-to shade.

Middleton was photographed wearing her own take on the cobalt trend while attending a daytime event with Prince William in Rotherham on Nov. 14. Middleton wore a knee-length blue coat dress by Eponine London, which features an A-line belted waist, round buttons, and three-quarter sleeves. The Duchess of Cambridge accessorized with a matching pair of pointed blue suede pumps, a style she's been known to lean on over and over again. She finished off the traditional-looking ensemble with subtle earrings, a watch (complete with blue precious gemstones), and a navy clutch by Smythson.

Middleton wore her long, highlighted hair in a voluminous side part with the ends flipped up in loose curls. As usual, she kept her beauty look minimal with rosy cheeks, thick, long lashes, and a soft, nude lip.

Middleton, a seasoned professional when it comes to restyling old outfits in new ways, actually brought out this dress for the first time in January 2017. And it isn't the only blue dress in her closet — the Duchess opted for a similarly structured blue midi by Jenny Packham just two weeks ago, as well as a blue lace gown (also by Packham).

It's possible that Middleton took notes from her royal sister-in-law, who's equally (if not even more so) obsessed with everything bold and blue. Markle's style tends to be a bit more experimental than Middleton's, constantly bending the protocol for royal dressing by baring her shoulders, skipping out on tights, and even dabbling in slit dresses by on-trend, affordable retailers. The Duchess of Sussex recently stunned in a super-sheer, pleated midi skirt in royal blue, paired with a matching top and heels.

Although their aesthetics are so different, the two royal women regularly work blue into their looks, wearing (and re-wearing) the shade in all forms. Whether you see yourself as more of a Markle or a Middleton, it's time to add a pop of color to your wardrobe, too.
