Kate Middleton’s 2019 BAFTAs Dress Was A Bold Choice For The Duchess

Each season, to the delight of royal fans everywhere, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge step out for the British Academy Film Awards. Perhaps unsurprisingly, the duchess chooses the perfect outfit for the glitzy occasion — and this year has certainly been no exception. If you caught a glimpse of Sun. evening's stunning red carpet, you'll agree that Kate Middleton's 2019 BAFTAs dress may just be one of her strongest looks to date.

The duchess was a vision in an all-white Alexander McQueen dress as she arrived at the Royal Albert Hall in London alongside Prince William. Though Middleton has long perfected the art of red-carpet dressing — her envy-inducing wardrobe of couture gowns are proof — there was something inherently fresh about her BAFTAs look. A long, flowing train and a gorgeous, feather-like strap gave Middleton's dress some unexpected, yet totally welcomed, edge.

As usual, Middleton paired her dress with a super-refined updo, but the duchess took a departure from her typical makeup routine. The 37-year-old opted for a charcoal smoky eye with the perfect amount of sparkle. The shadow offered a bold contrast against her all-white dress, which is likely why Middleton chose to round out the look with a neutral, soft-pink lip.

Middleton's beauty routine was right in line with a handful of celebrity attendees (read: Lucy Boynton's vivid pink shadow and Amy Adam's subtle lipstick) but the duchess complemented her look with a few of her favorite royal accessories: pearl earrings (which once belonged to Princess Diana), a dainty clutch, and minimalist bracelets.

Sun.'s dress was incredibly different than Middleton's look at the 2018 BAFTAs. The duchess, who was pregnant with Prince Louis at the time, opted for a forest-green number by Jenny Packham. Though Middleton made headlines for not choosing a black gown in honor of the Time's Up initiative, she made a subtle nod by tying a black velvet ribbon across her waist.

If you needed any more reason to add white to your wardrobe this season, allow Middleton's stunning look to sway you. Though celebrities like Gigi Hadid and Kourtney Kardashian have already made a convincing case for wearing white well after Labor Day, Middleton has officially given the trend her royal stamp of approval — and what's more convincing than that?
