This Boot Trend Looks Good With Jeans And Dresses

It’s all but officially autumn, and that means boots are on the brain. On the shopping list for fall 2019 are square toes, chunky lug soles, sky-high platforms, colorful statement styles, and everyone’s favorite new test: how to style 2019's slouchy boots trend. This season, you’ll see this silhouette in every material, toe shape, and heel height you could want, typically with a tall shaft that hits somewhere between mid-calf and around knee-high. Some are super-slouchy, with unstructured shafts that readily collapse into baggy folds as you wear them, while others are a bit stiffer, tending to settle into just a few creases around the ankles unless you manually scrunch them down.

Slouchy boots are business as usual for labels like Isabel Marant, where such styles have been a signature staple for years, but the fall collections also saw several other designers join in with their own spin on the trend. At Jacquemus there were clog-like platform versions in bright colors; Victoria Beckham’s slouchy styles featured peep-toes and elasticized tops for an exaggerated balloon effect; and Prada and Saint Laurent kept it classic with relaxed shapes done in smooth leather and luxe suede.

As is the case for so many of today’s top fashions, this trend is evocative of an '80s aesthetic. The latest designs convey a sense of cool glamour and effortless edge in equal measure — a superlative mix that allows this vintage revival to be seamlessly integrated into a modern wardrobe. Case in point: the below influencer outfits. Keep scrolling to see how fashion girls are wearing slouchy boots with everything from loose trousers to midi skirts and dresses.

Modern Edge

Slouchy boots take on a more contemporary aesthetic when rendered in clean white, and worn with pieces that have a sleek, modern feel to them, like a boxy blazer with contrast paneling and an asymmetrical metallic skirt.

Back To The '80s

You can't go wrong wearing a thoroughly '80s boot with thoroughly '80s pairings. Start with a slouchy boot in a bright, eye-catching hue, then add vintage-inspired pieces like a chunky knit that emphasizes the shoulders and a pair of tapered leather trousers.

Create a '70s-era vibe with a boho-chic floral midi dress and scrunched-down boots in a natural earth tone, like brown or tan.

Animal Kingdom

With animal prints trending for fall, it's the perfect time to embrace your wild side with a mix of graphic tiger stripes.

Army Uniform

Build a uniform that combines tailored pieces, like a sharply-cut vest or blazer, with more relaxed, blousy silhouettes, like cargo pants and unstructured boots. All in army-worthy shades of khaki, olive, and drab.

Cool And Casual

A cool bustier top lends sexy, model-off-duty edge to an ensemble of baggy boyfriend jeans and tall slouchy boots.

Color Codes

Make an impact by matching the color of your clothes and your boots. A monochrome look is streamlined without being uninteresting.

Cozy Neutrals

As the weather cools down, coziness is the ultimate goal in practically everything you put on. A soft sweater dress and sumptuous suede boots offer the kind of touchable textures that feel perfectly suited to the season.

Metallic Moment

A puff-sleeved babydoll dress feels all grown up when you put it on with some flashy gold knee boots. This is how adults play dress-up.

Retro Vibes

Scrunchy suede boots in a rich jewel tone are the perfect match for the retro combo of a '70s-inspired print dress and plush fur-lined denim jacket.
