Days after style tastemakers and fashion insiders brought far-out camp looks to the pink carpet at the 2019 Met Gala, there's a lingering spirit of invigorated fun when it comes to getting dressed. Less-is-more minimalism will always serve as an undefeated default when flying out the door, but the biggest night in fashion was a sound reminder of the power of maximalist fashion as a means of expression. Though rainbow tulle and bows the size of your head may not fit into most day-to-day style mood boards, Hailey Baldwin's heels and socks combo is a prime example of how to stay playful this spring.

The model was seen leaving the Bowery Hotel in New York City on Tues., and her spirited footwear choice elevated the low-key look, swiftly taking it from everyday basic to fashion-forward. Dressed in an oversized black hoodie, straight-leg light-wash jeans, and a red tiger-print coat, Baldwin channeled her signature relaxed street style while adding a fun and sophisticated twist. Finished off with gold hoops, boxy sunglasses, and a simple slick-back hairstyle, the daytime look served downtown cool with a touch of sparkle.

The star of Baldwin's out-of-the-box look was undoubtedly the sheer socks with black rhinestones scattered throughout. Layered beneath patent leather criss-cross pumps, the ankle stockings struck a fresh balance against the faded cuffed denim, creating a juxtaposition that captured the lighthearted spirit of springtime style.

This isn't the first time Baldwin has opted for the funky footwear trend, having paired a pair of PVC sandals with nude mesh socks a few seasons back.

Selena Gomez took the trend one step further in Sept., styling knee-high Fendi logo socks with simple black pumps and a midi dress, while both Hadid sisters have put their own spin on the daring look some may call a fashion faux pas.

But after all, style is all about taking chances, and this next-level look is certainly worth the risk. Plus, it's easier to pull off than you might think.
