When it comes to following the latest trends, it seems like the bigger the item is, the more everyone seems to obsess over it. From longline jackets to platform sneakers, all of your favorite models, singers, and actors have been wearing oversized pieces recently. Not sure where to start? Gigi Hadid's dad-style top is the perfect pick thanks to its year-round versatility.

The eldest Hadid sister stepped out in New York City on July 18 in what is about to be your new wardrobe staple for the fall and winter seasons — but she styled it with a summery twist that's super easy to emulate. To brave the heatwave, Hadid opted for a striped blue short-sleeved ‘dad top.’ The piece, designed by Australian brand One Teaspoon, was worn completely unbuttoned.

To make the shirt's heavier fabric look more appropriate for the summer months, she opted to wear her piece over a simple white bralette-style top. Somewhat surprisingly (considering the temperatures), Hadid chose to wear a pair of light wash wide-leg jeans from Ksubi that are part of the brand's partnership capsule with her friend and fellow supermodel Kendall Jenner.

Hadid accessorized her outfit with a pair of thin black and gold sunglasses from her own recent collaboration with Vogue Eyewear, white ankle booties by Lou The Brand, and a navy and white printed Prada mini bag. Layered gold chain necklaces rounded out her look.

The keys to mastering Hadid's day-off style for yourself are all in the smaller details. Lived-in aspects such as the unfinished, asymmetrical hem on her shirt lend to the relaxed feel. Pairing the shirt with similarly worn-in items like distressed jeans add to the vibe.

To make the same piece work once the temperatures drop, try wearing it completely buttoned up and with black or dark-wash denim. It will also look perfect styled open over a black t-shirt or a knit turtleneck for added warmth. Swap your white boots out for black ones and you'll be good to go.

If you want to pick up a 'dad shirt' for yourself this season, look for pieces that have a boxy, roomier fit. Plus, keep an eye out for deeper colors and patterns like stripes or plaid. While you can still shop Hadid's own shirt online, brands like Motel offer similar, more affordable options that retail for well under $100. If it is a splurge that you're after, consider Gucci's silk floral alternative — it's the perfect piece to wear in the end of summer heat.
