Blake Lively’s Black Velvet Jumpsuit Is The One Piece You Need For Fall

Share

As soon as fall hits, out come the oversized sweaters, raincoats, and — if you're Blake Lively — pantsuits. The A Simple Favor actor has been romping about the streets of New York in an array of show-stopping separates in flashy colors — including a fiery-orange Bottega Veneta piece (complete with a pocket chain) and a purple and Kelly green combo. But on Thursday, she officially broke the streak — Blake Lively's velvet jumpsuit could be her best look this month.

Although she put away her tuxedos and sport jackets for the evening, Lively's jumpsuit still heeded the menswear theme she's expertly cultivated this month. Featuring a plunging neckline and a button-up front, Lively paired the one-piece with a bejeweled blazer as she laughed and chatted about her upcoming film during an appearance on The Tonight Show.

The former Gossip Girl actor finished off the look with a pair of sleek, black patent-leather oxfords. For a relaxed, laid-back aesthetic, Lively opted for her typical beauty routine: a subtle smokey eye, neutral lipstick, and low-key waves.

Although velvet is already in Lively's repertoire (the actor wore a matching velvet pantsuit in late Aug.), black is a stark contrast from the neon hues and plaid prints she's relied on of late.

It makes sense that Lively broke her suit streak with a jumpsuit. After all, jumpsuits are an easy, streamlined piece that makes fall dressing incredibly easy. Think of it this way: Not only is a form-fitting black suit with a cigarette-fit leg evening-approved, but you can pair it with an elegant blazer like Lively's, or dress it down with a casual pair of sneakers or mules. And what's less fussy than that?

The best part: If you're not quite ready to hop on the suit trend, Lively's jumpsuit is an easy entry point into menswear-inspired dressing, and there are tons of good ones on the market now. Take inspiration from Lively, and show them all below — and enjoy those extra minutes you'll save getting dressed in the morning.
