Cameron Diaz's Late Night Style

It’s always nostalgic to see ’90s and early 2000s rom-com queen Cameron Diaz back out promoting a new project. And even though she still shines in any new role she takes on, it’s hard not to think about her iconic turns in There’s Something About Mary, Charlie’s Angels, The Sweetest Thing, and The Holiday. That nostalgia felt especially strong when she she appeared on late night television on March 31, wearing a ’90s-inspired white Calvin Klein suit, complete with her signature pop of red style.

While Diaz may have moved on from that era (well, maybe not entirely — she’s set to reprise her role as Fiona in Shrek’s fifth installment), she’s still drawing from the effortless, minimalist style that defined it. As she should: her impact on fashion and culture, on and off the screen, is simply undeniable.

Her ’90s off screen style, specifically, can be seen referenced in more ways than one in her recent look to promote the new Apple TV series, Outcome. For starters, Diaz’s oversized, monochromatic suit by Calvin Klein — the ultimate minimalist label — felt like a callback to a similar gray menswear-inspired look that she wore in the South of France in 1994.

As if that weren’t enough evidence that Diaz is her own inspiration, here’s another shot from Paris in 1998, where she wore an almost identical colored blazer. But the real proof? Her love of a red shoe.

For her appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, Diaz wore a pair of red haze pumps from the buzzy new footwear label, Jude. In the nineties, it was her signature finishing touch to any red carpet look and date night — now, she’s using her favorite styling trick all over again.

To make the look feel more contemporary, she added a pair of architectural gold statement earrings from Mega Jewelry (her stylist Dani Michelle’s own line).

If there’s one thing Diaz and her fans can agree on, it’s that she’ll always be a style icon, then and now.
