Adam Selman & Rihanna Teamed Up For Fenty's Next Big Collection
Adam Selman and Rihanna have a history of fashion collaboration. Selman has dressed the prolific entrepreneur and performer since he first launched his own label in 2013. But now, the duo is debuting a new partnership, a Savage X Fenty and Adam Selman lingerie collaboration that combines both of the artists' colorful and unapologetic design aesthetics.
If you remember Rihanna's see-through gown from the 2014 CFDA Awards (she received the inaugural Fashion Icon Award), you'll know that Selman and Rihanna both love to show a little skin — in fact, Rihanna told Vogue later on that her biggest regret was the nude underwear she wore beneath her sheer gown. “I just liked it better without the lines underneath. Could you imagine the CFDA dress with a bra? I would slice my throat. I already wanted to, for wearing a thong that wasn’t bedazzled. That’s the only regret I have in my life."
Now, on Jan. 1, ahead of this Valentine's Day, Rihanna and Selman have collaborated on lingerie worthy of showing off beneath your own sheer number, or simply wearing all alone. The duo have called in friends of both brands — Joan Smalls, Paloma Elsesser, Adesuwa, and Fiffany — to model the looks in addition to Rihanna herself.
The 19 pieces range in price from $16-$84, and include bralettes, underwear, and other accessories in sizes up to 3X and 42DD, all with a bold '80s twist that mirrors the aesthetic of Selman's own line of clothing. Details like zips, ruffles, and lace play to the trends of the era. “I couldn’t imagine anyone other than Adam [Selman] for Savage X Fenty’s first designer collaboration”, says Rihanna via a press release. “Adam is everything the brand stands for – fun, playful, sexy.”
Though this is Selman's first official foray into lingerie, the designer has successfully expanded on his eponymous line before. He's already launched a sport diffusion line, and street style trendsetters have worn his Adam Selman x Le Specs sunglasses collab — specifically the signature modern cat-eye style, Lolita — for years.
"When Rihanna asked me to collaborate on Savage X Fenty, it was a resounding YES," Selman tells TZR via email. "She has been such a force in the fashion industry and we have worked together so seamlessly through the years. Her unapologetic approach and on-the-pulse instincts have always kept her one step ahead. We worked on every concept and detail of this collection together. Have you ever seen Rihanna fit a bra and panty? If not, you’re missing out.”
Below, watch an exclusive video created as part of the new campaign for an even more impactful look into the world of Adam Selman and Rihanna. In the short clip, you can see Rihanna and the other stars of the collection's campaign during their shoot, which recreated the feel of a bedroom during the '80s. Then, after watching, shop the retro-inspired Valentine's Day collection ahead of the holiday as a treat for yourself — no date necessary.
