Last week, it was the Golden Globes that sparked all sorts of fresh ideas, and as of Sun. evening, the 24th Critics' Choice Awards proved to be a major source of inspiration — especially in the lipstick department. On Sun. evening, celebrities flocked to the second major event of awards season, donning what were easily some of their best looks to date. And while the gowns are typically the first to spark conversation, the beauty looks were just as noteworthy. After all, a swipe of lipstick has the power to take any red carpet ensemble to the next level, whether it's a soft shade or a bold hue.

Emily Blunt
Emily Blunt walked the red carpet in the most breathtaking white gown, with a perfect natural makeup look that brought out the champagne hues in the gown. As for her lipstick? Blunt's makeup artist, Jenn Streicher, opted for Rouge Dior Ultra Rouge in "Ultra Lust," a dusty rose pink shade.
Constance Wu
Constance Wu's perfect natural rosy pout was achieved with Pat McGrath's MatteTrance lipstick in the shade "Flesh 5," a color that matched with the actor's sparkly Lorraine Schwartz ring.
Nina Dobrev
Nina Dobrev walked the red carpet in a bold, bright-red gown, so her makeup artist, Allan Avendaño, wanted something slightly more subtle in the beauty department. He went with the Dior Addict Lip Tattoo in the shade "Natural Rosewood," to achieve the perfect, natural pout.
Issa Rae
Issa Rae's makeup artist, Joanna Simkin, balanced out the actor's bold, shimmery eye with a lip closer to the nude range. Simkin started with a swipe of CoverGirl's Idol Satin Lipstick in "Undone," blending in the Idol Liquid Lipstick in "Royalty" to the center of her lips to bring in a subtle pop of pink.
Charlize Theron
Charlize Theron's sparkly Givenchy gown was offset by the most perfect, peach-hued pout, which was achieved by using two products: the Dior Backstage Lip Palette in "Satin Peach" and the Dior Addict Lip Maximizer in "Rosewood."
Angela Bassett
Angela Bassett sparkled at Sun.'s event in a jewel-covered gown and the glossiest lip to boot. Her makeup artist, D’Andre Michael, achieved the shiny pout by first lining her lips with Permagel Ultra Lip Pencil in "Ground Control." He then combined two MatteTrance shades, finishing off with Lust: Gloss in "Earth Angel."

Like many of the starlets on the red carpet, Amy Adams rocked the ultimate natural pink pout. Her makeup artist, Stephen Sollitto, used Beautycounter’s Sheer Lipsticks in "Terra," an earthy pink, which he combined with a dot of "Rose," a shimmering rosy pink.

Rachel Brosnahan's makeup artist, Lisa Aharon, pulled together the actor's all-over mod beauty look with a pretty, pink pout that was achieved by using Revlon Super Lustrous Lipstick in "Bare Affair." Bonus: It's just $6.
Gemma Chan
Gemma Chan can wear just about every lipstick shade in the world, but the one she rocked at Sun.'s Critics’ Choice Awards may just be the prettiest yet. Monika Blunder, Chan's makeup artist, first lined her lips with Permagel Ultra Lip Pencil in "Buff," then mixing Lip Fetish: Lip Balm in “Love Supreme” and MatteTrance Lipstick in “Beautiful Stranger” to create the perfect pink pout.
