Reese Witherspoon's Choppy Bob Is The Perfect Summer Haircut
Reese Witherspoon has had the same hairstyle for years, but the actor just switched it up big time with an unexpected transformation. The cut she debuted on Instagram is about to throw you for a loop. Her new choppy bob will make Reese Witherspoon your summer muse.
The Legally Blonde actor rarely strays from her signature look: long-ish, highlighted layers styled either straight or in bouncy curls. In fact, most of the iconic characters she's played over the years — Elle Woods, Melanie Smooter, and now the Monterey housewife Madeline Martha Mackenzie — have inevitably inherited Witherspoon's timeless hairstyle, too.
But now that she and the rest of the Big Little Lies girl gang are done filming season two, the actor has decided it's time to try something new. On Tues., she revealed a fresh new cut courtesy of celebrity hair guru Lona Vigi (who Shailene Woodley, Olivia Wilde, and Sarah Paulson rely on, too).
The chop is so summer-ready it'll no doubt have you racing to the salon. A lightweight, choppy bob flipped to one side and hitting right at Witherspoon's shoulders. The actor posted a video of Vigi fluffing up the final product on Instagram, writing in the caption, "thanks for my summer cut."
It's been a while since Witherspoon has had a makeover this major. She actually dyed her sunny blonde hair brunette for her role in The Good Lie, which premiered five years ago. As for the cut, let's just say she's been out of the bob game for a very long time.
In 2014, the actor graced the Golden Globe Awards' red carpet with an asymmetric, shoulder-grazing bob with a thin layer of tapered bangs. In her earlier days, back in 2008, it was even chin-length, although it might be difficult to imagine her with such a short style today.
Her latest, though, offers a little taste of what Witherspoon looks like with a short hairstyle. It's even a little reminiscent of her role portraying Cheryl Strayed in Wild. In any case, the actor's bob is pretty much all the inspiration you should need for summer.
Finally, you can stop sifting through Pinterest in search for the perfect cut. Now that you have your ideal summer style in mind, you'd better book yourself a seat at the salon ASAP and tell them to give you "the Witherspoon."
