Just days after the record-breaking polar vortex, parts of the U.S. are thawing out and experiencing unusually warm temperatures. To city slickers' surprise and delight, it was nearly 60 degrees in New York City on Mon., prompting fashion lovers to begin eagerly planning looks for spring. While preparing for that tricky transitional dressing period (ie. when you leave the house in a sweater and are sweating by noon), keep outfits like Mandy Moore's asymmetrical dress and boots on your style mood board.

The This Is Us star has been serving iconic looks since the early 2000s, regularly leaning into whacky trends that characterized the era, asymmetrical skirts included. When you picture the trend from back then, you might imagine low-cut skirts with long, cascading ruffles, but a more refined iteration has emerged.

Moore is putting a new-age spin on the nostalgic silhouette, masterfully pairing her plaid dress with thigh-high, beige stiletto boots, while proving her top-notch styling skills. Finishing it off with a gray floor-length coat and a boxy handbag, the actor headed to The Today Show in style.

Realistically, you'll want to hold off on stowing away those snow boots and cashmere scarves for now. But as you patiently await brighter skies and higher temps out on the horizon, there's no harm in getting a head start on curating your spring edit, including Moore's outfit formula.
