So you've invested in some breezy dresses, snagged some sandals, and pulled out your ride-or-die denim shorts in eager anticipation of the warmer weather to come. But have you taken time to update your swimwear selection for the season ahead? A go-to swimsuit or two is necessary once temperatures rise and you find yourself spending weekends by the water — and there's one brand-new line that's begging to be added to your collection. The just-dropped Second Wave by Madewell swim line stands out from the rest for one important reason: because the pieces are made from recycled plastic, putting them on will have you feeling good, while looking fabulous.

Fashion-girl favorite mall store Madewell debuted its newest line of in-house swimwear on Feb. 26, and it's a step toward a more sustainable sartorial future. The Second Wave collection, now on the brand's site and in select Madewell stores, utilizes fabric that includes recycled plastic as part of the fibers to create each of the pieces. For each one-piece, the equivalent of eight plastic bottles is reused, and for each bikini four plastic bottles are recycled — that means for every suit made and purchased, a little less plastic is ending up in landfills.

In fact, about 50,920 plastic bottles in total were used to create Madewell's new swim line, so you can feel pretty good about purchasing one (or more) of the under-$100 pieces to sport poolside all spring and summer long. Plus, it doesn't hurt that the sustainable suits don't scrimp on style or fit — really, your biggest problem will be picking your favorite.

Fans of retro-inspired swimwear will fall for Second Wave's high-waisted bikini bottom, $45, and sweet tie-front top, $49.50, especially in the earth-toned daisy print. This suit, along with many others in the sustainable collection, also stays true to the brand's mission to offer more inclusive sizing. It's available in sizes XXS through 3X, and constructed with a wider variety of body types in mind.

Some of the most stylish pieces from Madewell's new swimwear range include its offerings of one-pieces. The rainbow-striped one-piece, $75, packs tons of '90s nostalgia by way of a straight across neckline, tie back, and high-cut silhouette. And the ribbed ruffle-strap one-piece, $79.50, has tons of feminine charm while providing comfort — make it work double-duty by wearing as a bodysuit, too.
