The throwback fashion trends keep coming in 2019 — and Lucy Hale just worked one of the coolest nostalgia-inducing pieces into her off-duty uniform. On April 3, the 29-year-old was photographed leaving celeb-favorite coffee shop, Alfred's, in an outfit that's sure to conjure up thoughts of the 2000s cult classic, Mean Girls. Yep, Lucy Hale's green cargo pants pay homage to the early aughts in the best way.

Leggings are Hale's off-duty signature, but that doesn't mean she's opposed to switching it up every now and then in the pants department. And that's exactly what she did on Wed., when she took a slight detour from her usual athleisure uniform. In other words, no leggings or sporty bomber jackets were in sight.

It's very possible Hale was feeling nostalgic while getting ready for the day, because the outfit she put together could have easily been plucked straight from the 2000s. She reached for a basic white tank top, which she tucked into a pair of forest-green cargo pants (complete with utilitarian-style pockets, a tapered hem, and an elastic waistband).

That's right, Hale just singlehandedly brought back the combo that defined skater-era fashion à la Avril Lavigne nearly 20 years ago — and you're going to want to follow her lead stat. Luckily, her two-piece look proves super easy to emulate.

White Golden Goose sneakers, layered gold necklaces, and round sunglasses pulled together her 2000s-inspired look perfectly.

With utilitarian pieces on the rise this season, there's no better time than now to work cargo pants — an early aughts classic that's been championed by the likes of Kaia Gerber, Sofia Richie, EmRata, and Rihanna — into your own street-style ensembles.
