Kate Middleton Took Cues From Meghan Markle In Her Latest Outfit
After you're done delighting in the Duchess of Cambridge's über-sweet reaction to Meghan Markle's new baby boy, it's time to focus all of your attention on the trousers she just wore. Why, you ask? Well, not only were Kate Middleton's navy pants a bit outside of her usual wheelhouse, but they also bore a striking resemblance to a pair Markle wore back in Feb. 2018.
Middleton and Markle have their clear closet favorites. The former has made classic coat dresses in bright-colored hues a mainstay in her royal wardrobe, while the latter prefers modern silhouettes in toned-down shades, like navy blue and dark green. But that's not to say these two exquisitely dressed duchesses don't share some similarities in terms of their styling choices. They both love a good tartan print, streamlined blazers, and red midi dresses. But the latest royal matching moment may be the best of all.
On Tues., Middleton and Prince William made a joint public appearance in London to launch The King's Cup, a regatta that will take place off the coast of the Isle of Wight this August. For the outing, the duchess couldn't have picked a more perfect look, considering it drew inspiration from the day's sailing theme.
Middleton opted for a blue-and-white striped sweater from JoosTricot — a knitwear label launched by writer Natalie Joos — which she teamed with a pair of L.K. Bennett trousers. The pants feature a '70s-inspired, wide-leg silhouette and four white statement buttons across the waist, but the most noteworthy thing about them is the fact that Markle actually owns a similar pair, too.
If you follow royal style closely, Middleton's latest getup — or rather, her pants, specifically — may have brought you back to Feb. 2018, when Markle and Prince Harry visited Edinburgh. Though a longline tartan coat covered most of the duchess' look that day, she removed the top layer for a brief moment to reveal a pair of high-waisted Veronica Beard trousers.
Just like Middleton's, Markle's feature a wide-leg silhouette and white button detailing on the front, though hers did have a slightly longer hemline.
With a stamp of approval from two super-stylish royals, you might want to consider adding a pair of these retro-inspired trousers into your lineup as well. Do so with The Zoe Report's roundup of similar picks, below.
