Beyonce's Top-Handle Bag Proves The Retro Trend Isn't Slowing Down

In July, Beyoncé nailed a range of jaw-dropping looks in the video for "Spirit," The Lion King live-action remake's title track, starting with a lavender ruffled gown from Pierpaolo Piccioli’s Valentino spring 2019 collection. And on Weds., Queen Bey logged onto Instagram to send a not-so-subtle reminder that purple is most definitely her color. Dressed in a formfitting Altuzarra lilac gingham dress accented by retro shades and a grape-tinged top-handle bag, Beyoncé drenched the feeds of her 131M Instagram followers with a welcomed wash of color via the #OOTD photo series.

Between juggling a whirlwind of press appearances for The Lion King and curating its companion album, The Gift, Beyoncé has had a wild couple of months. What's more, news just broke that Tyler Mitchell's photo from the singer's historical Vogue cover shoot was selected for the permanent collection of the Smithsonian's National Portrait Gallery. True to form, the mother-of-two decided to go above and beyond, snatching wigs worldwide with the sun-drenched, monochromatic photoshoot.

Making a convincing case for color-coordination, the 37-year-old showcased a deep-purple matte lip that matched her bouquet of flowers and L’Afshar crocodile handbag perfectly.

Dainty, feminine bags have been reigning supreme during spring and summer 2019, with micro bags and retro-inspired trends remaining a go-to for celebrities and the fashion set. The royal purple Ida bag from the Dubai-based brand also plays into the animal-print trend with its croc-embossed finish. This isn't the first time the Academy Award-winning artist has opted for the textured material, because she posted a similar muted green version from By Far back in June.

If you're in the market for a fun, spirited handbag to add a trend-forward twist to your everyday wardrobe, look no further than this celebrity-approved style. Whether you're feeling a royal purple moment like Bey, or are more in-tune with a subtler shade, there are plenty of boxy styles to choose from.
