There's nothing quite as chic as an all-black outfit. Except for an all-brown outfit that's done the right way, and Meghan Markle's latest look is proof that its a lot easier to achieve than you think. Unlike its darker counterpart, very seldom do brown separates have to shade match in order to be successful. In fact it's almost better if they don't — making it a foolproof replacement for your go-to black ensemble.

During a visit to Canada House in London, on Jan. 7 (husband, Prince Harry in tow) Markle decided on elevated basics in varying brown hues to create a super chic look for the occasion. The royal opted for a free-flowing chocolate slip skirt with a coordinating turtleneck sweater for her first public appearance of 2020. And sticking true to the brown color story in question, the Duchess of Sussex dressed the look up with a pair of satin point-toe pumps by Jimmy Choo; effortlessly topping off the look with a Reiss camel-colored 'SABEL' coat, that's as practical as it is stylish, to bring it all together. However, to recreate the look, all you need is a curated selection of brown staples to create an instantly chic outfit.

Following Markle's lead, when experimenting with the color trend, try to stick to core styles that can be worn interchangeably. For example, Citizens of Humanity's velvet pants, $228, are a great place to start, as they can easily by swapped in as an alternative to your favorite pair of jeans. However, if you'd like to trade in your traditional black trousers, ASCENO's washed-silk pajama pants will work just as hard in your workwear lineup. Both have a rich color that looks great with lighter separates.

When deciding on pairings, try choosing soft brown companions that will go with any and everything like Cami NYC's draped camisole for $168. A much cozier option for those off-duty looks, STAUD's ribbed-knit turtleneck jumper is meant for a slightly looser it, which is ideal for layering in colder temperatures. No matter your preference, there are a ton of options on the market right now that will align with what's already hanging in your closet.

To get you started, TZR is offering a curated selection of styles that will help you complete an all-brown outfit that's just as (if not more) chic as your go-to noir ensemble.
