The temperatures are finally on the rise, and the rush to transition your wardrobe for the new season is in full swing. Knitwear and long sleeves are swapped out for breezy blouses and lightweight tanks, trousers for shorts and minis, wool and cashmere for cotton and linen. Typically, you’d probably stow your boots to free up shelf space for barely there strappy heels, flat slides, sport sandals, and other similarly open styles. But, there are plenty of stylish spring and summer boot trends that are perfectly suited to the warmer months. Who decided boots don’t belong in your summertime shoe rotation, anyways? Boots are a staple, especially if you live in a city where exposed toes means risking some encounters with sidewalk grime and mysterious puddles from who knows where.

First off, not all boots are created equal. White boots, for example, are arguably a better fit for the spring and summer aesthetic than they are the colder periods. Fresh white ankle boots go well with crisp poplin sundresses and breezy blouses, along with pretty much any variety of denim. By the same token, neutral-toned snake prints (think light grays, tans, creams) are another very summer-friendly footwear trend. Boots that are all about a delicate design detail, like a sculptural heel or square toe, are also well served by this season’s attire. The shortened hemlines that warm weather brings showcase your footwear more visibly than the long trousers you wore them with in winter.

Ahead, discover seven boot trends that belong in your summer wardrobe, plus fashion girl-approved ways to style them for the balmy months ahead.

Western Boots

Everyone's embracing the wild west this season with a pair of cool cowboy boots, be them embroidered, colored, or just classic country. No matter which style you go for, when the heat hits, switch to wearing them with long, floaty dresses for a breezy, bohemian vibe.

White boots are so versatile they'll go with practically anything, but they look especially chic matched with a starchy white cotton sundress. Don't wait until Memorial Day to break this look out.

Combat Boots

Even the chunkiest combat boots can feel summer-ready when you offset them with a ditsy floral mini dress — it's the perfect mix of grunge and girly.

Snakeskin Boots

Snakeskin is a huge trend for all styles of shoes this season. Pair short python print booties with monochrome pastel suiting for a fresh, sprightly combination.

Square-Toe Boots

Cropped flare jeans draw the eye down to the foot without covering up your boots, and double denim echoes the '90s vibe of a squared off toe.

Slouch Boots

Wear slouchy, '80s-inspired boots with a loose printed dress or full skirt. Opt for a silhouette that's just long enough to overlap slightly with the top of the boot shaft.

A midi dress is the perfect length for this style because it puts the statement detail on full display. A silk frock featuring a cool color gradient or tie-dye print will compliment the artful boots and feel breezy in the summer heat.
