Pretty palettes and shimmery highlighters may take up the most room on your vanity, but it's often unsung heroes residing in your beauty drawer that really help you achieve your favorite looks. That's why for The Zoe Report's second annual Beauty Awards, we dedicated an entire category to the best nail products and beauty tools of 2019 that add a hint of polish to every look — often, in more ways than one.

To figure out the most exciting new innovations to hit the market this year, we asked two leading industry experts — nail artist Betina Goldstein and cosmetic chemist Ron Robinson, founder of BeautyStat Cosmetics — to tell us what 2019 launches they're most excited about in the catch-all of nails, tools, and more. According to Robinson, one major trend stands out this year above the rest: Beauty that can be uniquely customized. "The need for personalization has been a global trend for a few years now," Robinson tells TZR. "Consumers want beauty that is targeted for their needs." Think: brush heads that cater to specific skin types. Or, even something as simple as a polish that can appear either subtly sophisticated or deliciously luxe, depending on how much you apply.

But Robinson and Goldstein aren't the only ones offering up their top picks. TZR editors also spent weeks testing everything from gorgeous lacquers to clever new applicators, all with one purpose in mind: to bring you the best in 2019 beauty. Want to see what made the cut? Check out the six nail products and beauty tools TZR editors and experts are loving most this year, and what exactly makes them stand out above the rest.

Yubi Beauty Perfect Polish Set Feat. Buff Brush & Blend Sponge Applicators

"I love how easy [this set] makes it to apply makeup. It's like your fingertips, only better. ... Consumers love that it helps them apply makeup more evenly without wasting product." — Ron Robinson, Cosmetic Chemist

Augustinus Bader The Body Cream

"I love to use this on my hands. It leaves your skin hydrated and plump. Night treatment: Massage into cuticles and hands, and wear cotton gloves at night. Your hands will be super soft and hydrated in the morning." — Betina Goldstein, nail artist

Tom Ford Soleil Nail Lacquer

"This polish is simply stunning, and contains 24k gold flakes that give your nails a glow. For an effortlessly chic look, I like to use one or two coats on top of a bare nail." — Goldstein

FOREO LUNA 3 Cleansing Brush

"Loved this. I have sensitive skin, but this felt like it gave a good deep clean without leaving my skin irritated or stripped." — Aidan Macaluso, TZR Senior Social Editor

Olive & June The Studio Box

"I don't long to live on the West Coast for any reason other than being in proximity of Olive & June, one of the coolest nail salons in the United States. The Studio Box is the next best thing — especially for someone with a shaky hand like mine. It includes The Poppy, a universal polish handle that helps me paint on my polish with pro-level skill." — Khalea Underwood, TZR Beauty Editor

Paintbox Power Couples

"Gone is the pressure of perusing the polish wall whenever I visit Paintbox. These duos, which launched this summer, really do go perfectly together — and can be mixed and matched outside of their pairings, too." — Underwood
