You know how you’ll be hunting for a specific style of shoes, and then the next thing you know they’re popping up in your Facebook and Instagram feeds and in the ads on your favorite websites? As you might already know, that’s not a coincidence: Algorithms are designed to grab info from your devices to suggest products you might want to buy. But things are getting even crazier. According to a recent report from the MIT Technology Review, Amazon is now able to design clothing via artificial intelligence. Apparently, the online retailer is working with a tool called generative adversarial network (GAN) that can track trends by searching through images and then the algorithm can come up with a new design based on what it finds. So does this mean that we’ll soon eliminate the need for actual human designers? Yeah, probably not. But we’ve got to admit we’re curious about what the AI’s would design for us. Would you let your computer create your next ensemble?
