With the sustainability movement rapidly helping individuals conquer every aspect of their lives and just about every room in their homes, it seems the bedroom is yet another item to add to the list of things to make greener. And helping you get started is West Elm, whose chic line of hemp bedding just launched. Yes, the mega retailer known for its modern, chic, and affordable decor is now incorporating eco-friendly to its roster of attributes — and if this launch is any indication, the party is just getting started.

“We created our new hemp bedding with our customers and the environment in mind, putting material innovation, function, and sustainability at the forefront of our design process,” said Jeffrey Hannoosh, SVP of product design and development at West Elm, in an emailed press release. “Hemp’s reduced environmental footprint, breathability, and relaxed look and feel is well-suited for customers looking for a natural, more eco-friendly fabric for their home.”

As Hannoosh stated, hemp is an attractive option from a sustainability standpoint because of its low environmental impact. In the same emailed press release, West Elm explains, “[...] growing the hemp plant requires significantly less water and land than other conventional bedding materials and does not typically require the use of pesticides. The crop can also be regenerative and is known to extract toxins to improve soil quality.” This exciting new bedding material joins West Elm's diverse assortment that includes Belgian Linen, TENCEL™, and Washed Cotton Percale.

For its specific hemp-infused bedding, West Elm blended Fair Trade Certified hemp with 100 percent cotton and utilized plant dyes for its neutral color ways, which include Undyed Natural Hemp, Desert Flax, Blue Haze, and Misty Grey. The new collection includes duvets, sheets, and coverlets in a selection of solid and striped options, with price points ranging from $44 to $665. Just in time for spring, the offering is perfect for those looking to add some crisp, neutral freshness to their bedroom (here’s looking at you, minimalists).

Ahead, shop the new eco-friendly line for yourself so you can feel extra-good about your purchase when you snuggle into your cozy bed at night.
