Olivia Culpo’s Raincoat Is The Perfect Combination Of Fashion & Function
Leave it to Olivia Culpo to resurrect the quintessential '90s-era iridescent jacket and make it look haute couture. The model made her way through the streets of Paris on Wed. afternoon sporting a retro polychrome raincoat over a sleek black turtleneck. If you thought you grew out of rainbow-colored, plastic apparel, Olivia Culpo's raincoat will make you think again.
Fully embracing the PVC trend, Culpo let her coat shine against her green trousers and black top. For the ultimate off-duty look, the model combed her hair into a low, middle-parted bun and threw on a pair of hoop earrings. The glossy, knee-length trench put a playful finish on her elegant outfit as she romped around the Notre-Dame de Paris just days ahead of Paris Fashion Week.
There's a good chance Culpo picked up the practical-yet-stylish trend from New York Fashion Week, which featured an array of PVC trenches on several designers' runways. The Spring 2019 lineup at Adeam included a shiny black PVC coat, while Sies Marjan revealed a textured, translucent purple trench. Maryam Nassir Zadeh, Milly, and Kate Spade New York also proved during NYFW that, come the wet season, technicolor plastic raincoats will be in.
Culpo is ahead of the forecast, though, and is already playing around with the throwback trend.
The best part about the PVC raincoat trend is the fact that it's stylish and functional. As soon as cold-weather season rolls in, having a trendy, transparent piece to fight off the rain is a smart move. The cheerful hues will add a pop of color to your wardrobe on dreary days, while the impermeable materials will help prepare you for the perpetually confused climate of autumn.
Like any other trench, a PVC raincoat looks great over slim-cut basics like Culpo's turtleneck, or layered over your favorite fall dress. You can ease into the raincoat trend with subtle colors — the high-gloss materials will still look super stylish whether it's hot pink or something more subdued — or you can go bold and mix bright hues and patterns to mimic the runways of NYFW.
Ahead, The Zoe Report's favorite PVC raincoats for the ultimate, Culpo-inspired look.
