Kate Middleton Found The Perfect Hairstyle For Statement Earrings

Kate Middleton looked like she stepped straight out of a fairytale at Weds. night's 100 Women in Finance Gala. The duchess stunned in a whimsical pink gown, velvet and glitter accessories, and the statement earrings she only brings out for special occasions. To show them off, Kate Middleton's half-up hairstyle was key.

Earlier in the day, the royal attended a business conference in a tweed skirt suit that some suspected was a custom Alexander McQueen. The classic outfit was so spot-on her style, but then she changed into something a little more unexpected later that night.

Middleton pulled out all the stops for the gala, accessorizing her multi-toned pink Gucci gown with a velvet clutch, glittery pumps, and the subtlest pop of pink on her eyelids. She even dusted off those massive Kiki McDonough drop earrings she wore to Pippa Middleton's wedding, which shouldn't come as a surprise, seeing as she rarely wears something only one time.

And when you're wearing statement jewelry like that, it would be a darn shame for them to go unnoticed. With Middleton's half-up hairstyle, they couldn't have been missed. The royal traded in her usual loose waves and updos for glossier, more structured curls that she pulled back away from her face.

Middleton loves a good pair of earrings. She's always tucking her hair behind an ear to showcase the jewels. Then during formal occasions, she almost always wears some variation of a polished chignon. During her recent BAFTAs appearance, for instance, she chose the exact same updo as she wore to the Queen's Diplomatic Reception in Dec. (and to Prince Charles' birthday in Nov., and to the State Banquet in Oct. ... the list continues).

It's fairly rare for the royal to wear her hair halfway up, especially to a formal occasion. This time, though, there was no more perfect choice for showing off those dazzling gems. Middleton's pulled-back glossy curls are a refined way to wear your hair both up and down at the same time.
