Jan-Michael Quammie Reveals Everything She Bought In A Month — Including A $200 Pair Of Socks
The Zoe Report's Everything I Bought This Month series highlights one trendsetter’s spending habits over the course of a month, focusing not on groceries or utility bills, but on the fashion, beauty, and lifestyle picks they buy — non-essentials that actually feel, well, pretty essential.
Meet Jan-Michael Quammie, the Berlin-based style director for Highsnobiety, an online platform that covers fashion, culture, art, and music — aka it's the place to go when you want to know what's cool now. Quammie’s personal style is quirky, colorful, and trend-forward. If anyone can pull off tulle and sneakers or leopard and florals at the same time, it’s Quammie. She worked her way up as a buyer and stylist at the likes of Saks Fifth Avenue, Net-a-Porter, and Mytheresa, and is always one step ahead of the brands to know. Since her current role is menswear-focused, Quammie sits in a unique position to understand trends as they intersect, oppose, and complement one another across gender.
Over the course of 30 days, Quammie found herself everywhere from Marrakech to Dubai to Paris for both work and pleasure. Quammie admits that, because she’s been traveling for the better part of a month, she was less focused on picking up new purchases — but there's plenty to covet in the list ahead. Those sitting front row are often lucky enough to be gifted the next It bag or beauty drop — so when something is worth spending money on, you know it has to be good. Here's everything Quammie says she bought this past month, so you can pick them up, too.
“This product is so necessary to avoid heat damage when straightening my hair, and it also smells really nice. I can only wear the Marine Serre balaclava when my hair is straightened. I think I subconsciously started straightening my hair just to wear these Marine Serre pieces.”
“I bought a Marni runway skirt that I found on sale at Voostore in Berlin — but I'm not sure if I really love it. My boyfriend thought it looked 'sexy' on me, which is probably why I don’t love it. I never really go for the sexy look. It also reminds me of a peacock.”
“I also bought a pair of black Margiela Tabi socks for my five pairs of Tabi boots — just one pair though. I feel like they were 200 euros — it might be because they’re cashmere, but it’s fine. At least I don’t have to slice my socks in between my two toes anymore. Who else does that? Also, when did they start actually making these socks? So genius and also way overdue. I think this might be my favorite purchase.”
