Angelina Jolie’s Givenchy Couture Top Is Pure Maximalist Perfection
The term maximalist is rarely used to describe Angelina Jolie's style. But, there is a first for everything, and the ever-stylish actor just served up big, bold sartorial goodness that signals she (might) be taking a few more risks for her upcoming appearances. Angelina Jolie's Givenchy couture top is a welcomed change of pace from her usual sleek fashion choices — and as such, it's no surprise it caused quite the buzz when it debuted on Oct. 7.
Jolie has been busy jet-setting around the world for press events surrounding her latest film project, Maleficent: Mistress of Evil (set to be released in theaters everywhere on Oct. 18). And, as is usually the case with these media rounds, there has certainly been no shortage of fashion inspiration.
For the L.A. premiere of the Disney sequel, Jolie stunned in a glittering, chainmail Versace gown (complete with a scorpion brooch) that was a lesson in sleek nighttime glamour — and now, she just served up an easy-to-follow guide on nailing the maximalist dressing approach, even if you don't channel your inner Iris Apfel all too often.
On Mon., Jolie attended a photo call event for Maleficent: Mistress of Evil in Rome, Italy, alongside co-star Michelle Pfeiffer. Whether these two intentionally coordinated in their soft, pastel-hued pieces or not, one thing's for certain: Both looked the definition of gorgeous.
Jolie's signature uniform involves lots of black or white pieces, but she's been venturing a bit around the color wheel as of late — and her most recent press event look is perhaps the best example.
The actor was clearly feeling a "go big or go home" mentality while getting dressed for the day's activities, because that lavender Givenchy bow top, from the fashion house's Spring/Summer 2019 Haute Couture collection, is big (and bold) in all the right ways. It features super-thin straps that are practically invisible and lots of pleated fabric that appears to be tied into a bow in front and elegantly drapes to her ankles.
Considering the top's scene-stealing nature, it was a wise style move to keep the rest of the pieces in the outfit, well, simple and understated. She teamed the Givenchy number with sleek black trousers and black sling back pumps. Jolie sported a deep side part and long, loose curls that complemented the flowy top to a T.
