9 Winter Nail Polish Colors Our Editors Can’t Get Enough Of

The acronym for Seasonal Affective Disorder is wildly appropriate. I don't know about you, but I definitely get SAD when the temps drop below 20 and I have to trudge through 20 inches of snow to get to the nearest subway station... so anytime I'm able to take advantage of a mood booster, you'd better believe that I will. Indulging in a manicure with a winter nail polish color, whether it's cheery or moody, is always a surefire fix for a case of the blues... and my fellow Zoe Report editors feel the same way.

In December, celebrity manicurists including Deborah Lippmann and Gina Edwards told TZR that colors like glitter and metallics are trending for winter 2018 — and there's nothing wrong with some serious shimmer. But this team favors shades that have personal meanings: Aemilia Madden, TZR's Senior Fashion Editor, prefers a periwinkle that reminds her of snowflakes, while Associate Celebrity Editor Ruby Buddemeyer wears black, a shade that she's favored since her school days. Of course, the team doesn't just go for mattes... Angela Melero, Senior West Coast Editor, prefers Butter London's Bling Crushed Diamonds Patent Shine 10X Nail Lacquer, a winter white with a hint of sparkle that she considers her new nude. As you can see, the team's favorite shades are reflective of every kind of #mood... which makes it all the more easier for you to find one that suits yours.

Le Vernis Longwear Nail Colour in 584 Bleu Pastel

"Winter is so dreary for me, so I like to keep my nails light. This pale blue feels seasonal — like a snowflake, perhaps — but is still lighthearted and fun." — Aemilia Madden, Senior Fashion Editor

"I always prefer a nail color that’s traditionally ugly — think muted greens, bright oranges, and murky browns — and this spiced tan from J.Hannah is my newest favorite." — Lauren Caruso, Managing Editor

Gel Couture Nail Polish in Rock the Runway

"Years of gel manicures wreaked havoc on my nails, which is why I almost exclusively wear Essie’s Rock The Runway. This shade of scarlet is particularly striking, and it doesn’t chip!" — Aidan Macaluso, Social Media Editor

Bling Crushed Diamonds Patent Shine 10X Nail Lacquer

Butter London

"This winter white, shimmery shade is my new 'nude.' I love how versatile it is, while still lending the touch of glam that I need all day, every day." — Angela Melero, Senior West Coast Editor

Nail Polish in Malaga Wine

"Maybe it's because I'm forced to wear no less than 12 layers of clothing each day, but winter always brings out my moodier side. Especially when it comes to my hair, nails, and makeup. Malaga Wine, a rich and decadent burgundy, definitely falls into that category — but I always get joy in looking down at my perfectly-painted nails whenever I wear this shade." — Khalea Underwood, Beauty Editor

Nail Color In Licorice

"I wear black all year 'round so I like my nails to match my outfit. This jet black cream shade is chic, shiny, and everything I want in a polish. It is without a doubt my go-to for any occasion!" — Kelsey Stewart, Intern

No. 17

"I've been searching all my life for the perfect red, and I finally stumbled across this one the last time I was at sundays studio. It's such a classic shade, and the fact that it's cruelty-free, vegan, and non-toxic makes this find that much better." — Anna Buckman, Shopping News Editor

"For polish colors, I always choose a bright color that has a soft hue. This yellow from J. Hannah is the perfect combo of both. Paired with my skin's undertone, is is the perfect match." — Mecca James-Williams, Contributing Marking Editor

Nail Lacquer In Black Onyx

"There are two types of people: those who love black nail polish and those who abhor it. I definitely fall within the former, and I’ve been wearing this one for years. One coat leaves my nails with the perfect, inky hue and a slightly glossy finish." — Ruby Buddemeyer, Associate Celebrity Editor
