The Internet Swears By This Weird Insomnia Remedy

by Allie Flinn

If you have (or have ever had) insomnia, you know that lack of sleep seriously effs up your life. Before you fly into a lack-of-sleep-induced rage at the next person who asks if you’ve tried melatonin, might we suggest brewing a cup of banana tea? Insomnia sufferers across the internet swear by this easy recipe to help them fall asleep.

Bananas are ripe with potassium and magnesium, both of which can help your nervous system chillax. They’re also high in tryptophan, an amino acid that gets converted to 5-HTP in your brain, which is then turned into serotonin and melatonin. The recipe is simple: Cut off the ends a banana (peel on), boil it in water, then strain and drink the liquid. Not exactly a unicorn Frappuccino, but apparently it gets the job done. BRB, stocking up on bananas.
