3 Ways To Wear A Striped Shirt That You Haven’t Thought Of Yet

by Laura Lajiness Kaupke

We love a good stripe, whether it’s a Breton, candy or Bengal iteration. But because the look is so timeless, reimagining the staple can prove trying after countless wears. Purveyor of many a striped T-shirt, J.Crew has declared March 31 National Stripes Day, making it the perfect time to inspire a few fresh styling ideas for the classic pattern. From button-downs to boat necks, here are three new ways to rock a stripe, courtesy of J.Crew stylist Jenny Kang. Try these out in celebration of the newly minted holiday this Friday.

National Stripes Day!

"Wear stripes head-to-toe by mixing one stripe with even more stripes! A helpful tip: Stick to the same color palette to keep this look from looking too wacky. I like to tie a tee or thin sweater sideways across the waist and shoulders or in place of a scarf as an of-the-moment layering hack.”

"Shirting stripes are my favorite kind of stripes. I love how this pajama set mixes different shirting stripes together—and it’s definitely wearable during the daytime with pant like this Cropped Chambray pair."

"Borrow from the boys with a great oversized striped shirt—wear this button-down styled over a crewneck tee and tucked into a pair of high-waisted jeans for added dimension."
