Kelly Slater’s New Clothing Line: Why We’re Excited

by Nicky Deam

We’re always down for a beachy-cool new brand but if that’s what you’re expecting from 11-time world-champion surfer Kelly Slater’s new line, Outerknown, hold the sunscreen. While the brand’s dramatic and elusive Instagram leaves us somewhat in the dark about what the designs will actually look like, we have no doubt the collection will be fit for a champion of style. Here, 3 reasons you should be excited for what’s to come.

The line (backed by the Kering Group, which is also behind major brands including Gucci, Stella McCartney, Alexander McQueen, Balenciaga and others) promises to be a more sophisticated, fashion-forward collection epitomizing a coastal lifestyle, rather than that of a beach bum.

Slater tapped his longtime friend and fellow surfer John Moore to aid in the design (this year, Moore was recognized as one of GQ’s best new menswear designers for his other line M.Nii).

The line is set to launch menswear in Fall 2015, but, most importantly, womenswear arrives in time for Resort next year, promising pieces ranging from cashmere essentials to outerwear. We'll be (not-so) patiently waiting.
