3 Reasons We’ll Miss Raf Simons At Dior

by Kristi Mikesky

Another day, another designer departure. This time, it’s Raf Simons exiting Dior, and he’s bowing out on a high note (his grandiose Spring 2016 collection in Paris marks his last). The news is surprising and bittersweet, as the palpable synergy between the designer and the storied fashion house made for an ironclad three-and-a-half year partnership. Though his next move is unclear, Simons notes a reason for departure is to focus on his own brand. (Exciting!) Here, we recount a few ways Simons made his time at Dior so memorable.

Modern Glamour

Simons brought a distinctly modern approach to the classicist design house in a way that felt authentic to Dior yet gave it strong celebrity appeal. (His designs were favored among cool-kid A-listers such as Rihanna, Dakota Johnson and Hailee Steinfeld.)

Insane Footwear

Aside from stunning ready-to-wear, Simons made a splash with his inventive footwear. There's now nary a fashion girl in sight who doesn't covet his thigh-high patent boots.

Over-The-Top Shows

In what would be his final presentation for Dior, Simons' Spring 2016 setup in Paris consisted of a dream-like flowerscape adorning the Cour Carrée at the Louvre—a spectacular backdrop for yet another standout collection. This marks just one of many grandiose venues for his seasonal debuts.
