Would You Try This Mineral Stone In Place Of Your Deodorant?

Quick word association: We say “rock,” you probably say something like “Dwayne Johnson” or “earth.” Noticeably absent is the word “deodorant.” But there is a magic stone out there that claims to stop body odor. Crystal Body Deodorant Stone is an all-natural, mineral-based stone that you swipe under your arms after you shower and it (supposedly) keeps you stink-free for 24 hours.

Natural deodorants have been gaining popularity as of late because of increasing concern over the effects of aluminum found in antiperspirants (though it should be noted that there is a lot of conflicting information out there about this). This little ball of de-stinkifying minerals contains no aluminum chlorohydrate, aluminum zirconium, phthalates or parabens—in fact, the only ingredient is potassium alum.

At first, we thought this was batsh*t crazy. But after doing a little more research, we may be convinced to give it a go. Here’s the deal: When you sweat (which is basically just your body releasing salt and water through your pores), it doesn’t actually stink. What does stink is when the normal bacteria on your skin start munching on the sweat and excrete waste (sorry, there’s really no less-gross way to phrase that). Potassium alum is naturally anti-microbial, so it stops the stink-causing bacteria from multiplying.

In other positives, Crystal is ranked as one of the safest deodorants by the Environmental Working Group—and you’ll sound fancy AF when you tell people you don’t use antiperspirant, you use a mineral crystal.
