In March 2022, Emma Watson was both cool and classic with ombré blonde waves falling just past her shoulders and a center part. At the BAFTA’s she’s the picture of elegant poise.Stephane Cardinale - Corbis/Corbis Entertainment/Getty Images
By October, Emma Watson had traded in her long waves for a dark, choppy “mixie” cut that combines the coolest, edgiest elements of the mullet and the pixie — Watson’s one-time signature look.David M. Benett/Getty Images Entertainment/Getty Images
Gabrielle Union ushered 2022 in with style when she posted a carousel of photos showing off a full, flowing high ponytail. Styled for a night out with her husband and paired with a steely smoky eye, it’s party-ready.@gabunion
Right away, though, Union was on to the next major look. Early spring was dedicated to this super-short, incredibly chic bob, with she emphasized with deep, cheekbone-emphasizing side parts. The jaw-length haircut looked even cooler paired with her elevated neutral ensembles. Gotham/GC Images/Getty Images
The White Lotus star Aubrey Plaza was going strong on the retro look for most of the year, showing up at the show’s October 2022 premiere in a flipped-out, shoulder-skimming cut and her usual deep mahogany hair color.Matt Winkelmeyer/GA/The Hollywood Reporter/Getty Images
Just weeks after The White Lotus premiere, Plaza shocked everyone by unveiling a new, warm “champagne blonde” hair color, complete with what looks like a choppier cut and slightly shorter length.Mike Coppola/Getty Images Entertainment/Getty Images

Kerry Washington has her all-time favorite hairstyles, sure, but she’s an icon because she never relies on them — and experiments with bolder looks, too. For a 2022 Netflix premiere, Washington appeared in a cropped polo shirt and a Joan of Arc-esque pageboy cut unlike anything she’s done before.Charley Gallay/Getty Images Entertainment/Getty Images
January 2022 can practically be defined by the Euphoria craze — Sydney Sweeney and her co-stars were absolutely everywhere. Around the series premiere, Sweeney was spotted out in New York City with her usual long blonde beach waves loose and flowing.Gotham/GC Images/Getty Images
By March 2022, Euphoria’s second season had come to a close but Sydney Sweeney was still talk of the town. Her new red hair, which she originally dyed for a role, was accompanied by a fresh pair of long, wispy bangs and a shorter, layered haircut.@sydneysweeney
Kim Kardashian started 2022 the way she usually does — that is, with her natural raven hair color. Just days before her head-to-toe Marilyn Monroe makeover, Kardashian went for the wet look at the White House Correspondents' Association Dinner.Paul Morigi/Getty Images Entertainment/Getty Images
Kim Kardashian’s platinum blonde bun was a surprise at the 2022 Met Gala, but the real shock was her commitment to the color. Though she’d change up the length and style with wigs and extensions, she’s been consistently blonde ever since.NBC/NBCUniversal/Getty Images
Casually glam waves have been a Katie Holmes signature since her Dawson’s Creek days, and they were still going strong as of July 2022, seen here at a fashion event in Connecticut. Katie Holmes surprised (and inspired) New York Fashion Week fans when she showed up the the Tom Ford Spring/Summer 2023 show with a gelled, spiked set of micro-bangs. Jodie Turner-Smith’s penchant for trendsetting mean she’s tried plenty of transformative hairstyles (and colors) through the year, but her most exciting looks all seemed to follow this ethereal, cinnamon-toned undercut from the 2022 Venice Film Festival.Vittorio Zunino Celotto/Getty Images Entertainment/Getty Images
By December 2022, the actor had traded the tousled haircut for an even closer-cropped style. Jodie Tuner-Smith’s blonde buzzcut not only complemented her look at The Fashion Awards — which she hosted, naturally — but served as a canvas for the series of bright colors she’d dye it in coming weeks.Samir Hussein/WireImage/Getty Images
Looking sleek and sultry with a plunging black blazer gown and a straightened center part, Michelle Pfeiffer glowed on a December 2022 episode of The Tonight Show With Jimmy Fallon. In her signature shade of bright baby blonde, Pfeiffer’s glowing.NBC/NBCUniversal/Getty Images
Just under the buzzer, Michelle Pfeiffer took several inches off her hair in the final days of 2022. Aided by celebrity stylist Chris McMillan, Pfieffer’s new bob haircut lands just at her shoulders for a clean, elegant feel in time for the holidays.@mrchrismcmillan
All smiles at the Valentino Spring/Summer 2023 show with Law Roach, Zendaya’s long ombré waves fall to her mid-back, arranged in a cascading side part and tucked behind her ears. With just days left in 2022, Zendaya surprised everyone when she showed up at a Euphoria event sans several inches of hair. Her new side-parted bob, short and sultry with ample volume and well-placed curls, is already starting trends for 2023.Jeff Kravitz/FilmMagic/Getty Images
