The Thing Kristen Stewart Says She ‘Owes’ People

by Laura Lajiness Kaupke

Kristen Stewart has been notoriously private about her personal life (and for good reason, her four-year courtship and subsequent break-up with Twilight co-star, Robert Pattinson was highly scrutinized in the media), but the actress is finally opening up about her current relationship with Alicia Cargile. “I would never talk about any of my relationships before, but once I started dating girls it seemed like there was an opportunity to represent something really positive,” said Kristen who confirmed last month that she is dating her former assistant. “I still want to protect my personal life, but I don’t want to seem like I’m protecting the idea, so that does sort of feel like I owe something to people. I love her so much.” Explaining the disingenuous effect the spotlight had on her past relationship, the Café Society star said, “People wanted me and Rob to be together so badly that our relationship was made into a product. It wasn’t real life anymore. And that was gross to me.” We’re hopeful that Kristen’s enlightenment will help to inspire those who feel the need to protect or even hide their true selves for fear of scrutiny in favor of self-acceptance and of course, true love.
