Now We Know How Beyoncé’s Twins Got Their Names

by Ashley Tibbits

It’s been nearly a month since we first learned the names of Beyoncé and Jay-Z’s long-awaited twins. And while we had our suspicions about where the monikers Rumi and Sir came from, now we can say for sure how the couple came up with them. During an interview with podcast Rap Radar, Jay explained that his daughter was named—as you may have predicted—for the 13th-century scholar and poet Jalal ad-Din Muhammad Rumi, a favorite of theirs. As far as Sir goes, his name came about pretty organically. “He carries himself like that,” the proud father rationalized. “He just came out, like, Sir.” Well, there you have it! Now if we could just see a little more of the twins’ cute faces, we might be satisfied.
