Ectoin, First Found In Salt Lakes, Lands In A Pumpkin Night Cream

Every September, pumpkin gets drafted into a new job. Lattes, candles, a cereal nobody asked for. Its real fairy-tale credit is Cinderella's carriage, not Sleeping Beauty's hundred-year nap, but the mash-up works for Savor Beauty's latest launch, which puts the pumpkin to work in a night cream. Today, the brand launches its Sleeping Beauty Pumpkin Cream, built around an ingredient worth getting to know: ectoin.

Ectoin, Explained

Ectoin was first identified in microbes that survive in some of the planet's harshest places, like salt lakes and deserts, which are not exactly spa conditions. According to Savor, ectoin forms a hydration shell that helps skin retain moisture. The timing fits, too, since the formula arrives just as radiators start kicking on.

What's Inside The Jar

Savor calls the formula "Korean Slugging 2.0," a nod to the overnight sealing trend, minus the pillowcase casualties. Along with ectoin, the brand includes polyglutamic acid for added hydration, plus ceramides, pumpkin seed oil, cocoa butter, shea, and rosehip, which Savor says help support the moisture barrier. The formula also contains 5% niacinamide, which the brand says targets dullness and dark spots.

Velvety Texture, Subtle Scent

Think part night cream, part overnight mask. According to Savor, the texture is a velvety cream, and reviewers on the brand's site say it sinks in without leaving a greasy film. The scent, per the brand, is subtle wild rose and sandalwood from 100% essential oils, a pairing that leans more spa than pumpkin pie.

Who It's Made For

Savor positions the Sleeping Beauty Pumpkin Cream as ideal for dry and mature skin, and as part of an age-delay routine.

The Last Step Of Your Nighttime Routine

It's Step 4 in Savor's five-step ritual. Per the brand's directions, after cleansing, toning, and applying serums, smooth a small amount onto your face in gentle upward motions as the final moisture-sealing layer of your evening routine, then leave it on overnight. Savor recommends using it every evening.
