The 12 Beauty Insiders to Follow This Fashion Week

by Christina Perez

New York Fashion Week is just hours away from kicking off, and we couldn’t be more excited to absorb all the new hair, makeup, and nail trends. Since there’s always much more going on behind the scenes (not to mention on the catwalk and on the street!) than we could possibly see all at once, this season we’re relying on some help from our friends. Below, the way-cool beauty insiders whose Instagram accounts we’ll be glued to this week—and beyond.

Pat McGrath, Makeup Artist

@PatMcGrathReal

McGrath might just be the most influential makeup up powerhouse on the planet: editorials for Vogue, campaigns for Prada, and runway shows for everyone from Chanel to Dolce & Gabbana.

Harry Josh, Hair Stylist

@harryjoshhair

Think of a celeb with great hair, and chances are Harry Josh is the man behind the mane: Alexa Chung, Karlie Kloss, the Olsen twins, Gisele Bundchen… need we say more?

Jin Soon Choi, Manicurist and Founder of JinSoon Nail Lacquer

@jinsoonchoi

All those striped nails we've been loving the last few seasons at Prabal Gurung, Derek Lam, Karen Walker, and Tibi? Jin Soon Choi's idea.

Sam McKnight, Hair Stylist

@sammcknight1

Karl Lagerfeld's go-to hairstylist for the Chanel shows has a way with a tousled wave, a loose braid, and a glittering barrette. He's also got a thing for flowers, so expect plenty of blooms mixed in amidst the hair shots.

Val Garland, Makeup Artist

@thevalgarland

If you've seen the recent campaigns from Lanvin, Sacai, and Jimmy Choo, then you've definitely seen Garland's semi-surreal work.

Charlotte Tilbury, Makeup Artist

@ctilburymakeup

She's the go-to makeup artist for major shows and designer campaigns, and she even has her own cult-followed makeup line. We're betting pretty soon she'll be almost as famous as the megastars she gets red-carpet ready—Kim Kardashian and Beyoncé.

Gucci Westman, Makeup Artist and Global Artistic Director of Revlon

@gucciwestman

One of the most respected makeup artists in the biz, Westman has worked on everything from major films and magazine covers to the Oscar de la Renta runway shows.

Sarah Brown, Beauty Director at Vogue

@sbrogue

If you're looking for someone with tons of access, look no further than Vogue's Sarah Brown. Her first-on-the-scene snapshots and cheeky captions are some of the most entertaining around.

Elaine Welteroth, Beauty Director at Teen Vogue

@elainewelteroth

Teen Vogue's beauty director is no slacker when it comes to snapping vivid, up-close pictures—just the thing when you need a second look at the elaborate winged eyeliner or striped nails you've been dying to try.

Aura Friedman, Hair Colorist

@auracolorist

If you've been wondering why pastel locks or icy bobs have become so popular, look no further. Friedman's the colorist behind the runway's most talked-about candy-colored manes.

Sandy Hullet, Hair Stylist

@sandyhullett

Legendary hairstylist Guido Palau may be the mastermind behind Marc Jacobs' kooky runway wigs, but he's not a very avid Instagrammer. Thank goodness than for Hullet, who's worked with Palau for years, and takes such dreamy backstage photos you'd probably want to follow her even if you weren't a hardcore hair obsessive.

Wendy Rowe, Makeup Artist

@wendyrowe

It's no wonder Burberry tapped Rowe to be their artistic consultant—Her feminine aesthetic (dewey skin, strong brows, and feline eyes) are the perfect mix of modern and classic.
