Amid the sea of metallic dresses at the 2016 Met Gala, we managed to catch a glimpse of some serious eye candy on Kate Upton’s ring finger. News of her engagement to Justin Verlander was confirmed with the presence of an enormous diamond ring we’re guessing is at least 6 carats. Justin clearly has impeccable taste—after all, what girl wouldn’t want a brilliant round-cut stone set in an elegant pavé band? The flawless choice is a good reminder of what to look for if you’re in the market for some bling. First, a white diamond looks best set in a monochromatic metal like white gold or platinum (even if the band is yellow gold, the diamond should be set in white). Second, if you want to pump up the effect, add a halo around the center stone. From a distance, it’ll look like one giant rock. Last, when in doubt, go for classic cuts like brilliant, emerald, marquise or oval. Congrats to Ms. Upton—we can’t wait to see what she wears down the aisle!
