A fresh manicure is my equivalent of a good hair day. For whatever reason, I always feel more confident with well-manicured hands rather than a full face of makeup. I suppose there's something about neat nails that makes me feel like my life is a little more together than it really is. When I look down at my massive to-do list, my nails make me feel like I’m someone who will get it done. I'm always on the hunt for new colors, and regularly scope out Instagram for the latest trends — as TZR's Senior Social Editor, it's quite literally my job. This season is no different, and I wasted no time in finding the best nail polishes for fair skin tones.

While I'm normally not a big glitter enthusiast, I love playing with shimmery, metallic shades come December. It’s the perfect complement to any festive, holiday party look (and decidedly more fun than my typical polishes). While silver and gold are always eye-catching, lately I’ve been experimenting with subtle, pearly shades and iridescent blues. While I'm a loyal OPI Big Apple Red fan, I'm swapping it out for something with a bit more shimmer this season.

Metallics aside, I’m always in the market for moody winter hues. Since my wardrobe skews darker this time of year, my nails often follow suit. While classic black is always my go-to, I enjoy throwing some deep purples and blues into the mix. I recently discovered Chanel's Le Vernis Longwear Nail Colour in Prune Dramatique, and can't get enough of the rich, eggplant shade.

Even though I typically gravitate towards darker polishes this time of year, it's not to say I'm abandoning bright colors entirely. I always rely on a few vibrant hues to get me through the thick of winter. Come February, I’ll be donning shades that allow me to fantasize I’m somewhere with sand instead of snow (St Barths, perhaps?).
