Finally, A Clothing Collection Designed With All Your Holiday Travel In Mind

Whether you’re catching a flight, setting out on a road trip, or hopping on a train, travel attire can often go one of two ways — casually polished or comfy and relaxed. While both are perfectly acceptable looks in transit, a coordinating loungewear set or so-soft jumpsuit is actually a perfect happy medium. And thanks to the newly launched travel collection from label Summersalt, you can easily freshen up your travel wear this holiday season.

While Summersalt initially launched as a sustainable swimwear line in May 2017, the brand just added ready-to-wear to the lineup. Co-founder Reshma Chattaram Chamberlin says that Summersalt wants to be the label women look to for any getaway or adventure, big or small. “We set out to fill her suitcase with comfortable, affordable, and stylish pieces designed to keep up with her on-the-go life,” Chattaram Chamberlin explains. The result was a collection of seven items you can easily mix or match — a long-sleeve top-and-bottom set, a sleeveless jumpsuit, a self-tie duster, two small travel cases, and two scarves. The ready-to-wear — which is available in sizes XS to XL —is made from a fabric called TravelSoft, which is a new ultra-soft vegan silk crafted entirely from pre-consumer waste. “This unique silk alternative is stylish and sustainable, and doesn’t wrinkle as much as other yarns, making it ideal for travel,” says Summersalt co-founder Lori Coulter.

The direct-to-consumer brand leveraged data they first began to collect when designing swimwear to help inform the fit of the collection. “Our fit is informed by 1.5 million body measurements captured from 10,000 women and that helps create the base pattern for both our swimwear and travelwear,” says Coulter.

But, the line isn't just about numbers: “From day one, we’ve encouraged our swimsuit customers to reclaim the joy of wearing swimwear, empowering them to feel sexy on their own terms and above all else —comfortable," Coulter explains. "We took the same approach in launching travelwear, creating comfortable, affordable pieces that allow her to focus on the joy of travel. We used our data-driven fit to create pieces that fit her, not the other way around."

“Each piece in the travelwear collection is meant to be transitional and appropriate for any vacation or staycation,” says Chattaram Chamberlin. But, out of everything, the co-founder believes the top and pant will be the collection's hero pieces. “And as their names state, [these] are the two pieces we think customers will wear everywhere while traveling—from plane to pillow,” Chattaram Chamberlin says.

While this coming spring will mark the brands second year in production, the co-founders have been steadfast about expansion, recently raising $6 million to grow the label into a full-fledged lifestyle brand. “In 2019, we’re growing our team, expanding into additional categories, launching the Forecast — our global content hub for all things travel — and have a bunch of very exciting collaborations on deck," Chattaram Chamberlin shares.
