Smith & Cult Just Dropped New Nail Colors That’ll Make You Rethink Pastels For Spring
Pale pink. Pastel blue. Lavender. They're the colors you see pop up in the nail polish industry each spring, regardless of any trends. But this winter was a long one; when it snowed in March, it seemed like pedicure season was never going to arrive. So, you may not quite be feeling subtle when it comes to your nails this month — and if that sounds like you, then it's time to check out Smith & Cult's spring 2019 nail colors. The brand did something totally unexpected for the season: There are no pastel shades in sight.
Instead, Smith & Cult focused on glitter — lots of it. Retailing at $18 per bottle, each shade is a "metallic color with micro shimmer glitter", according to a comment by Smith & Cult on its Instagram page. So, your nails are going to catch more than a few eyes (which is probably what you want after wearing gloves and boots for way too many months).
The shade names do a great job in describing the sparkle-packed polishes, too. The release starts with "UNSCENE", a metallic nude that looks to pull more silvery than warm. Then there's the most spring-ready shade of the bunch: "PALACE IN WONDERLAND", a vibrant metallic fuchsia packed with shimmer. Finally, the collection features a boldly dark metallic blue called "SOUL PURPOSE".
Like the other Smith & Cult nail polishes, the new shades are vegan, cruelty-free, and gluten-free. They're also 8-free nail polishes — which means they're free of dibutyl phthalate, toluene, formaldehyde, formaldehyde resin, camphor, xylene, ethyl tosylamide, and triphenyl phosphate. As Smith & Cult puts it in the product description: "Go easy on the planet, go hard on nail art."
Not so sure where to begin with the nail art, though? You could always go for a full, basic manicure, with one of the colors dominating all your nails; with all the glitter and metallic sheen, there will be nothing basic about it. Or, you could try applying just a dot or an organic dab of the sparkly shades to a neutral base — one of spring 2019's best nail trends.
