Along with vibrant slime green and pearl-adorned accessories, baggy menswear has proved a consistent trend this season. While there are a variety of methods when it comes to interpreting the popular style, Kaia Gerber’s oversized coat may just be the easiest way to give it a try. The model, whose off-duty looks are equally as aspirational as her runway attire, showed off her own rendition of the trend on the final day of New York Fashion Week.
Gerber was photographed in Manhattan on Feb. 13 in one of her best statement pieces yet. Though the 17-year-old's outfit was fairly simple — a camel-colored knit and a pair of dark-wash, straight-leg jeans — she enhanced the look with the simple addition of an oversized plaid coat. The boxy trench by A.L.C provided an effortless-looking nod to the menswear trend, and it was just large enough to function as a layering piece.
As far as accessories go, Gerber tends to keep it simple with a touch of industrial edge. This time around, the Los Angeles native opted to throw a chainlink fanny pack by Alexander Wang over her shoulder, paired with sleek combat boots by Jimmy Choo. Although she's braved intensely bold styles throughout NYFW (remember that bright-blue wig from the Anna Sui show?), Gerber kept it simple with her naturally wavy hair, bronzed skin, and bare-looking lips.
Gerber isn't the only model with a love for all things menswear. In fact, other big names have been known to take the trend even further. Hailey Baldwin is consistently photographed in cozy joggers, roomy blazers, and large t-shirts that look like they could have been plucked straight out of her husband, Justin Bieber's, closet. Bella Hadid has been photographed in a number of oversized suit sets, while her sister, Gigi, has experimented with mens button-downs galore.
Take it slow by starting with Gerber's version and adding an oversized coat to outerwear lineup. Make like the young model and wear it over jeans and a sweater, or add some grit to your little black mini and pumps.
