Every fashion girl will tell you the same thing: The right accessories have the power to take any getup from zero to 100 in mere seconds. Whether it's a bold pair of hoops, a mini croc-effect handbag, or a statement belt, the styling power of these tiny essentials should definitely not be underestimated. Feel like you've exhausted all your accessory options? Then you should turn your attention to a recent Naomi Watts' getup, which oh-so-effortlessly demonstrates how to wear a day scarf this summer — and fall, too.

Silk scarves are a closet classic, much like a LBD, a blazer, and a pair of black ankle boots. But they aren't nearly as prevalent on the daytime street-style scene. Sure, the new trend of wearing them as a top (see: how to tie a scarf as a top) has brought with it an influx of sightings as of late, but come fall, you might start seeing less of this particular fashion craze. That said, that definitely doesn't mean you should pack away your scarf and put it in storage just yet. Instead, you should make like Watts and loosely tie it around your neck for a subtle dash of elegance.

Watts is a travel pro, especially because she's on the go quite a bit for her work — and that makes her a great source of inspiration to turn to when you're looking to perfect an airport look. On Jul. 29, the British beauty was photographed on the streets of New York City, presumably en route to the airport, as evident by her suitcase and tote bag, looking chicer than ever. That's probably not what you wear when you're flying, right? But Watt is about to convince you to toss aside those leggings for trousers and that neck pillow for a silk scarf.

Watts traveled in style with a pair of black trousers that featured a paper-bag waist. She teamed the bottoms with a flowy white blouse and carried a white blazer in hand (because you know how chilly planes can get). The finishing touches included a black wide-brim hat, slide sandals, and a colorful silk scarf that popped.

In reality, wearing a scarf à la Watt is super easy. If you're thinking of styling one with a bold motif, it's best to keep the base pieces more toned down, just like the actor did. If you have a simple red scarf on hand, feel free to reach for a leopard-print dress (or anything of the like).
