On May 4, you may have seen a commotion ripple across Instagram. Although Gucci Beauty's new lipstick collection had been teased days prior on @GucciBeauty, when the @Gucci Instagram account dropped a photo of the house's new red lipstick swiped onto a pair of smiling lips — emblazoned with the caption "For the bold, the bright and the beautiful" — the internet had a thing or two to say. While you may not have time to pour over the 19,000 comments left on the photo (a huge number, even for Gucci), one thing is clear: Alessandro Michele's first lipstick collection arrived with as much bold, bright, and beautiful panache as the creative director's vision for Gucci did, years ago.

And in a way, the new collection — which amounts to almost 60 lipstick shades — will be just as elusive as Gucci's fashion and accessories. At least, for a little bit. According to Gucci's website, the $38 lipsticks are an online exclusive until May 27. (The Gucci Makeup lipstick collection will also be available beginning May 6 exclusively at the Saks Fifth Avenue New York Flagship and nationwide on May 29 on Saks.com.) It may take you until then to decide which shades to buy, too; scrolling through the website's page of lipsticks can feel a bit like walking through a candy store as a kid. There really are that many to choose from.

Besides the staggering amount of shades, there are three unique lipstick finishes, too: 18 sheer lipsticks titled Rouge à Lèvres Voile, 36 satin shades called Rouge à Lèvres Satin, and four Baume à Lèvres — Gucci Beauty's luxurious, often color-rich take on lip balm. The shade 25 Goldie Red in the Rouge à Lèvres Satin finish is an obvious one to buy ASAP; Gucci swiped it onto the punk musician Dani Miller's lips for the campaign imagery, and the website notes it's Alessandro Michele's favorite. (Which is all you need to tell a Gucci fan, or anyone else shopping for a brilliant, true red lipstick.)

This new collection also marks the re-launch of Gucci Beauty's makeup side; previously, the brand focused on the house's popular fragrances (like The Alchemist's Garden) as well as sharing images of its dream-like runway looks. Shoppers won't have to wait too long it seems for more Gucci Beauty cosmetics, either — Allure reports that new Gucci Beauty "chapters" will be arriving soon.

But for now, it's time to figure out which of the many, many new shades deserve a spot on your vanity. Ahead, a few to keep your eye on.
