Summer obviously has its perks. Rooftop parties take the place of indoor soirées, it's warm enough to bare your arms, and the days seem to miraculously slow down a little. But there are downsides, too, though — and arguably the worst of those is having to give up most of your wardrobe due to the unbearable heat, especially when you have to say goodbye to your beloved wear-with-everything jeans until the later part of September. Naturally, Everlane recognized that this was an issue, which is exactly why the brand introduced its newest launch, The Summer Jean, on April 29.
What makes them "summer" jeans, exactly? For starters, they're really light. "The Summer Jean is made from 100 percent cotton and is only 10 ounces, making it our lightest jean yet," Everlane's VP of Design, Sonia Martin, tells The Zoe Report in an email. So not only will they not weigh you down, they won't weigh down your summer suitcase, either.
But it's not just about what the fabric's made of; it also has to do with the way the fabric's created. "It has all the character of our classic non-stretch denim, but the fabric is woven in a slightly looser way," says Martin. "This loose weave helps to provide the lightness and increased breathability that you need during the hotter months. This gives the Summer Jean a lived-in softness typically found only after years of wear."
The $68 jeans also come in a slightly relaxed fit (though with a more fitted leg and waist than the brand's Relaxed Boyfriend Jean, as the product description explains), so when the temperatures are really blazing, you'll still have a bit of a breeze thanks to the extra airflow.
Essentially, they check all the boxes: they're sustainably created, they won't weigh you down on even the hottest days, and they're affordable to boot. And that's exactly what the brand had in mind when it created these pants.
"We wanted to introduce a pair of denim that’s perfect for our customers to wear all season long," explains Martin. "The Summer Jean is made of an airy, breathable fabric and features a relaxed silhouette with a truly lived-in, comfortable feel that’s easy to wear even as the temperatures rise. Whether traveling, spending a day in the office, or grabbing drinks with friends — it’s always great to have a go-to pair to reach for during the hot summer days."
And that's something worth shelling out your money for. Which is why the only thing left for you to decide is which color your closet needs most — or if you should just go ahead and snag all three. Ahead, shop Everlane's new Summer Jean.
