EmRata Just Wore The 2019 Version Of The Slip Dress — & It’s So Chic
Silk slip dresses have been a summer closet staple for years now. Fashion girls everywhere have loved them for their ease (hello, entire outfit in one step), effortlessly put-together vibe, and retro feel. Although slips are usually designed with a cowl or sweetheart neckline, the spring season just offered a chic alternative. On Sat., Emily Ratajkowski’s yellow halter certified itself as the 2019 version of the slip dress.
It's no secret that Ratajkowski's red-carpet style is daring. She loves to go for plunging necklines, mile-high slits, and sheer fabrics. Her wedding guest attire appeared to be no different when she wore a custom Saks Potts frock to Marc Jacobs’ star-studded wedding in New York City on April 6. The summer-ready gold dress featured a high, halter neckline with a plunging slit down the front and a shin-grazing hemline. The dress' gold hue was right in line with Ratajkowski's go-to color palette (she even wore a similar shade to her own wedding in 2018).
The 27-year-old upgraded her usually natural makeup for a dramatic copper eyeshadow look, bronzed skin, and glossy nude lips. The model's hair was styled in a high, tousled bun for a touch of '90s charm. She kept her accessories simple and color coordinated, opting for gold hoop earrings, a gold Jeffrey Levinson clutch, and barely there, strappy sandals by Jimmy Choo.
Luckily, halter dresses don’t have to remind you of your summer wardrobe circa 2001. In fact, they've been making a major comeback this season. The shoulder-baring trend that was once popular in the early aughts has been updated in modern colors and sleek silhouettes — and Ratajkowski’s pick is proof.
If you're not totally sold on the trend just yet, stick to plain fabrics and solid colors to ease into it. Not feeling EmRata's gold? Designers like Alice + Olivia and Jonathan Simkhai have taken an understated approach with soft, pastel hues. Take a page out of Ratajkowski's style book and opt for a halter dress this season.
