You may never have heard of one of the top-rated cult-favorite mascaras at Ulta. You could even easily miss it when you're scrolling Ulta's website; the mascara retails for $4.99 and, compared to other top-selling beauty products, hails from a lesser known makeup company. But its price doesn't reflect how long it makes lashes, or its seriously gigantic cult following. Currently, the mascara has a 4.4-star rating out of over 1,800 reviews at Ulta.

It's the essence Lash Princess False Lash Effect Mascara — the $5 mascara that became a viral internet sensation after the online beauty community got their hands on it. The brand notes in the product description that the cone-shaped brush gives Lash Princess its famous, lash-lifting prowess; the before and after pictures for the mascara were enough to convince makeup fans all over the world to try it out. However, after making headlines and selling out at stores, the vegan, cruelty-free mascara is still available at Ulta, and still for the humble price of $4.99.

Which goes to show what sets well-rated mascaras apart from the cult favorites. Sure, everyone loves a mascara that does the job well, but when a brand can establish it's truly making products for its users, the people will follow. Such is the case with Benefit Cosmetics' They're Real! Lengthening Mascara, which remains one of Ulta's best-selling mascaras. Back in 2011 when the brand first released the game-changing product, it made the same promises you always see in mascara ads: It will dramatically lengthen and lift your lashes, and won't smudge or dry out.

But years later, with over 10,000 reviews on Ulta's website, time has shown that Benefit Cosmetics was right about the $25 mascara. Even Kim Kardashian's makeup artist Mario Dedivanovic praised the mascara's power.

As far as beloved drugstore brands go, the L'Oréal Voluminous Original Volume Building Mascara — another one of Dedivanovic's reccomendations — is hard to beat. Retailing for $7.99 at Ulta, it was the best-selling mascara in America in 2017, and according to the love it gets from Ulta reviews, not too much has changed. It's one of the top-rated mascaras at Ulta (currently at a 4.3-star rating from almost 1,000 reviews) and is formulated to extend your lashes to become five times their regular length. Over 700 of the reviews note that the mascara adds volume, too, making it a good choice if your lashes need a boost.

The competition is fierce. It's hard to choose. However, continue scrolling for just six Ulta mascaras with diehard cult followings.
