6 New 2019 Mascaras That Make My Hazel Eyes Pop

Imaxtree

Mascara is one of those beauty products that's always a word-of-mouth purchase for me. I can't count the times that I've had a conversation with a friend who recommends a mascara that she's wearing... and then next thing you know, I'm headed to my nearest Sephora to try it myself. Impulsive buys aside, even 2019's best new mascaras aren't one-wand-fits-all. I wanted to find a formula that makes my eyes stand out the way I like them too.

When I test a mascara, I look for a formula that isn't too heavy, and of course, offers zero clumping. My lashes are pretty full and naturally curly, so I don't like to have them weighed down and separated to create spider-looking hairs. And there's something about an easy application wand that gets me the ones that don't have a buildup of product on it and that can be taken out and swiped on without fuss.

Smell is also a factor when I try new mascaras. Sometimes I find products that have a strong scent and when I put it on, it causes my eyes to water and itch out of control. So, finding a formula that has little to no scent is also vital for me.I typically stick to the go-tos that already check those boxes, but with so many new releases out, I may need to make some space in my makeup bag.

Ahead, see six mascaras that I tried and put to the test.

Sisley-Paris So Volume Mascara

Taylor Lane

The formula was a bit thicker and to apply the right amount for my lashes, I had to wipe some of the product off of the wand before applying. The pigment is very deep, which is perfect for my dark hair and full lashes. It did take a few coats for this to even out, but other than that, it's a great mascara if you just want a little bit of emphasis. I also likes the fact that even though the formula was heavier, it washed off easily with one makeup wipe.

Marc Jacobs Velvet Noir Major Volume Mascara & Velvet Primer

Taylor Lane

This was the first time that I used a lash primer, and I loved it! It conditioned my lashes and provided the perfect base for the two coats of mascara that I added. I love how creamy the texture is and the fact that it didn't clump at all. I gave the mascara about three minutes to dry, and it wasn't wet to the touch after. My lashed felt full, yet natural. Removing the mascara was also a breeze and only took a few wipes to remove it all completely.

Pat McGrath Labs Fetisheyes Mascara

Taylor Lane

Mother's newest baby gave me the deep, dark, inky lashes of my desires. They looked so long and full, not unlike the inspo imagery of old Hollywood starlets and disco divas that McGrath often posts on her Instagram. For this mascara, I'd use a "less is more" approach while applying. And I'd say that this is a great everyday mascara that keeps your look natural, even if it does take a little bit longer to remove. Worth every minute, though.

Shiseido Controlled Chaos Mascara Ink

Taylor Lane

This mascara was so soft on my lashes, I forgot that I had any on. I applied two coats and was surprised at how high my lashes lifted without my handy dandy curler. I'd definitely be down to try some of the colored mascara formulas from the same range, too.

butter LONDON Power Up All Day Mascara

Taylor Lane

I love that the product is lightweight, and that it doesn't overwhelm the wand. Once I applied about two coats, my lashes felt natural but elevated at the same time. I like the separation that it gave my lashes without clumping. I also liked that it didn't smear down my face while I was removing it... and there was no big power struggle to remove it, either.

Able Cosmetics No Mess'Cara

Taylor Lane

This mascara glided right on without me having to apply too many coats — two was all it took to get the above results. No clumping, either, which is always a plus, and the shield helped with application, too. I also like that the formula didn't have a strong smell.

Jill Stuart Beauty Lasting Curl Blossom Waterproof Mascara

Taylor Lane

I was really impressed that this mascara stayed on and didn't smear and smudge through an entire hour-long barre class. Even though there is a light floral scent to the formula, I actually liked it... and it didn't bother my eyes at all.

L’Oréal Paris Unlimited Mascara

Taylor Lane

‌Would you believe me if I told you I got all that volume and separation with just one coat. I love that the formula is buildable and depending on the length of your lashes, you can add as many coats as you need without your lashes feeling too heavy and weighed down. The price is pretty nice, too.

Maybelline Snapscara Washable Mascara

Taylor Lane

Snapscara is exceptional for everyday wear. I'd even go far as to call it a no mascara-mascara. I used one coat, and the wand added a light touch that wasn't goopy at all as it's wax-free. I loved how easy it was to take off after a long day of running around.
