In the span of five years, ColourPop Cosmetics went from an indie, Insta-famous makeup brand to a globally recognized line of high-performance pigments and base shades that work on a wide range of skin tones. There are numerous ColourPop products for dark skin that go on like a dream, thanks to the products' rich pigment and a range of 42 foundation shades. Of course, that should come as no surprise, as the brand's mission is to "disrupt industry norms and redefine luxury through product innovation versus price," according to its site.
That's not to say that there weren't a few bumps in the beginning of the brand story. In 2016, ColourPop apologized for using unflattering shade names to denote darker tones at the time of the Sculpting Stix launch. And since then, the brand continues to redeem itself in the eyes of consumers: In Jan. 2019, ColourPop ranked number three in terms of consumer purchase intent on CherryPick's Top 10 Brands: Color Cosmetics. Plus, collaborations with influencers like Shayla Mitchell and Ellarie Noel always have such positive reception on social media (and on-site, as the products tend to sell out).
"I've had a great experience with ColourPop," model Jans Alcantara, who posed in a Savage X Fenty campaign, tells TZR. She also collaborates with ColourPop with sponsorships through Instagram. "I think they’re a great quality makeup company, and not to mention very affordable. I always gravitate toward buying eye shadows and lipsticks."
Beauty content creator Akilah Carry agrees. “At any given time I can be using three to five products from the brand in one makeup look," she says. "I use the No Filter Foundation Stix and their lip products. The Super Shock Shadows and highlighters are pretty good, too — they have so much pigmentation."
