You Have To See Ikea’s Sassy Response To That Balenciaga Tote

by Allie Flinn

Balenciaga has been making headlines lately for selling a $2,145 blue tote bag that has a remarkable resemblance to Ikea’s very recognizable—and $0.99—Frakta tote. Needless to say, the internet was confused, memes were created and lols ensued.

Now, the internet is abuzz with Ikea’s response to the luxury fashion house’s copycat bag. In an ad running on their site and social channels, Ikea shows people how to identify an original Frakta tote:

1. Shake it. If it rustles, it’s the real deal.

2. Multifunctional. It can carry hockey gear, bricks and even water.

3. Throw it in the dirt. A true Frakta is simply rinsed off with a garden hose when dirty.

4. Price tag. Only $0.99.

The brand’s ad agency even tapped a fashion photographer to snap the Ikea tote in a similar style as Balenciaga. Cheeky and original? We’ve fallen in love Ikea all over again. And maybe—just maybe—this is the beginning of an Ikea x Balenciaga collaboration? (Stranger things have happened.) Check out the ad below.
