This Is What Actually Goes Into The Making Of A Chanel Couture Piece

Calling all Chanel lovers (and who isn’t one, really?): The classic Parisian house (and closet staple of the style set) is sharing the inside deets on how its Haute Couture Fall/Winter 2017-2018 collection came together. In a teaser video (the full version can be seen here), the timeless yet always innovative brand hints at the painstaking craftsmanship that goes into each piece—dusting paint onto feathers and meticulously arranging them one by one onto fabric, trimming hems, adorning sleeves and drawing attention to necklines. It’s clear each item is a work of art. Even more fascinating? The making of the couture Chanel jacket, which took an astonishing 130 hours to perfect—30 measurements, sculpting and resculpting 18 hand-stitched pieces, a signature chain secured to the bottom of the jacket to weight it just so, and other countless artisan touches that stay true not only to the allure of haute couture, but to Chanel itself. It’s truly a sight to behold. Check out the process here. Now, who’s off to fetch a jacket of their own?
